Tips on how to overcome your fears

Are you scared of getting out there and starting a new venture in life?

I was, and still am, scared of things that may happen as I start this new journey after pivoting into full-fledged property investing. After resigning from my previous job, there are definitely some things I need to get past, but I find myself building more and more confidence.

Overcoming your fears won’t happen overnight. There are many ways to face and overcome them, but in order to start, you need to be willing to do it. It’s not easy, but with the right amount of dedication and hard work you’ll be able to conquer your fears and live life on your own terms.

What if for example, someone informed you that your family needs this experience to become closer together despite the risks of failure? Your spouse needs you to lean on him or her for support.

Children need to see you pursuing your aspirations wholeheartedly. Inform your family members that you won’t compromise their security, comfort, or necessity when you embark on your new endeavour. Honestly inform them of the risks, and the importance of putting in your time and effort.

Prepare your family as best as you can and ask them to walk this journey with you.

Another thing to note is you will never have enough information to make the important decisions you need to make, whether it’s at the beginning of your journey or at any point later. I still occasionally wake up in the middle of the night, immobilised with uncertainty and only certain of my shortcomings, particularly in periods of intense stress.

As an example, sending myself a “worst-case scenario” email from the party I am stressed about, such as “Sorry, you lost the deal for XYZ reason,” helps me decide whether I am willing to suffer that outcome before moving forward with the calculated risk.

By embracing uncertainties, you will become naturally confident because you realise that nobody has all the answers, and decisiveness usually wins.

What are some things you do to overcome your fears? I would love to know.
