Have you ever truly considered what motivates you to pursue your goals?
I would like to share a story that has just happened recently and really lifted my spirits. It made me really love what I do and strengthened my drive on why I do it.
There was a couple who had just moved into the country very recently as I was finishing refurbishing my flats. I had met them when I was tenanting a one-bed flat, but I couldn’t let them rent it as they were a couple and they actually had a 10-year-old kid. Coincidentally, I had a two-bedroom flat that I could tenant to them.
Now, as I was talking to them, I could really feel their passion and drive in wanting to “do” their life, but they were really scared or they didn’t have that many clues on how to get on with the things they needed and wanted to do.
I had helped them initially, not just as a landlord, but also as a human being.
They were really concerned about their child’s education, so I began helping them with the school application. I had consistently followed up with the school and chased up the council so the child could get a spot.
They had arrived in the flat and started living there around November. Come December, the child still did not have a slot at the school. He was feeling quite down, and understandably so. I had bought him a Christmas gift to help cheer him up, and I’m very glad I did because it perked him up that he had sent me a Christmas card expressing his gratitude and joy; that was very sweet of him.
This month I had been working with the boy’s father, chasing up the school again. Eventually, they had finally managed to get a place for the boy. As a parent myself, there were no words to convey how happy I felt. It was truly magical for me.
The father messaged me as I was hosting my PIN meeting, asking if I was busy. I said yes, so he left me a voice message as you can see in the screenshot. As I was listening to the message, it got me so emotional learning that the boy had got the place in the school. It is actually really amazing getting to see people grow and starting to live their lives.
It was very rewarding to see that.
When you help someone, choose to invest your time into them, and you see that they are progressing with their lives—that just fills me up with so much happiness and fulfilment. It is something from another world, that feeling. You just feel that whatever you’re doing is well accomplished; that your time is well spent.
This is what I want to do. I don’t want to just provide people with a house, I want to provide them a home. I want to help people succeed in their life. As a property investor, this is what drives me to do what I do.
If I can provide accommodation to these people, who have these dreams you can see in their eyes, I want to be that person that they could confidently trust to help them. I want to be that person who can provide them a home.
